The Evolution of a Cult can be marked by specific steps.

1. The Core Concept

An inspiring figure or figureheads introduce a new and transcendent idea pledging a cure for alienated and vulnerable people.

Thus we find ourselves. They’re getting ready to storm the compound overseas. Tensions are rising. Smoke is rising from the out-houses. One individual, naked, nervous, the words HIGH RELEASE POINT displayed prominently as a symbol, has emerged into view and is being led away with discretion towards an inconclusive loan stint at Derbyshire.

Do you recall the early days, when the world was still young? The era of early Bazball, of pure instinct.

2. The Honeymoon Phase

Team architects offer a fresh beginning, a brighter tomorrow, love, redemption within a community who all believe in the method.

What did it represent back then? Players celebrating feeling good. Tattoos. Strength. Focus. Confident masculinity. Admittedly, England’s players insist they don’t use the label, which is funny since it’s not recognized, what did we see?

But we know its essence. It’s the player executing a stroke so depraved it defies description. It’s the adrenaline of Ben Stokes in ultimate mode, a demeanor suggesting: focused titan, rugged appearance, hair woven from beaver hide, truly contemporary you half-expect to glance over and find him positioned at mid-off shirtless and cradling a wild salmon.

It’s the batsman often seen to talk in press conferences, appearing as a joyful figure in a waistcoat, saying stuff like we’re breaking down traditions. Certainly, the atmosphere, initially, was only good energy.

3. Expansion Period

Building period. Cohesion maintained by rote learning of the cult’s slogans. These ideas can appear contradictory as a loyalty check.

And this is the real point. Everything is a cult. The style was a trend as the game has its own culture. Or at least, the sport in England is closed, a clique, a private event, a closed world with centuries of tradition and mystery supporting it. It has long been a place where power and access are hoarded. It’s the colonial game of the nation, the pioneering brand. And guess what, Britain is itself a cult, a system of unknown levels, a royal family remains.

England’s cricketers have been enclosed in this system from a young age. Attempting to break free, to create a less brutal environment, they are just repeating their past, building another enclosure, a closed circle, however with a new team and a coach encouraging individuality provided you conform.

Live where your feet are. Embrace challenges. But no matter how fast and far you run, you remain stuck.
