The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
