Approximately 55,000 families have reportedly been affected by the weather, with their possessions and shelters ruined.

Heavy rains over the past week have intensified the already dire living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of evacuated civilians in the territory, as reported by aid organizations.

"Awful" Night Creates Serious Risks

A official detailed the previous night's conditions as "horrendous", with rain so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the ground.

"The recent weather was exceptionally terrible for the people. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so strong," said the official.

Officials express significant concern that young ones residing in makeshift shelters in damp garments will contract hypothermia and various illnesses.

Fatalities and Significant Loss

Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has passed away from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have died in building collapses caused by the storms.

Other reports put a greater fatality count. Officials said that several homes had fully given way and scores had been partly destroyed.

  • Almost 55,000 families harmed by rains.
  • More than 40 official refuges submerged.
  • Countless residents compelled to relocate again.

Assistance Operations Deemed Not Enough

Groups have escalated deliveries of tents, blankets and clothes following the ceasefire started, but they emphasize there is continues to be not enough aid getting in.

"Agencies are operating tirelessly to deliver that assistance and to distribute it, but the magnitude of the needs is so vast that we continue to see thousands of families and children who are truly enduring hardship nightly," cautioned one spokesperson.

Future Concerns and Truce Plans

The second phase of the ceasefire encompasses plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the withdrawal of military forces, and other provisions.

Aid bodies have highlighted the imperative for "increased and sustained humanitarian assistance to meet immediate and long-term needs."

The war was initiated by an offensive in late 2023. Following military operations have resulted in a high number of fatalities in the territory, based on official data.
