Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder

The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months after leading derogatory chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a agreement joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road concluded through agreement in August.

Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading insulting songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

All seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We had 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Challenges
